Pottsboro Fire Department

401 Franklin Ave

Pottsboro, TX 75076

903-786-2495

The Department was founded in 1946 as a 'Bucket Brigade' Fire Department. The first piece of motorized apparatus was obtained in the early 50's. Our total fire protection district is 43 square miles. The Fire Department consists of 15 volunteer firefighters, administered by its paid Fire Chief (Donnie Glenn). Several of our volunteers are certified firefighters with the Texas Commission of Fire Protection and Texas State Firemen and Fire Marshal Association. Our department is a registered first responder and several of our volunteers are also certified with the Texas Department of State Health. Maintaining certifications and ensuring our department is trained and ready to go requires monthly training sessions.

Our equipment includes two engines that can pump 1250 gallon per minute and hold 1000 gallons in their water tank. We also have two brush trucks for fighting wild land (grass) fires. The engines and brush trucks are supported with one command vehicle. We average about 300 calls a year.

In addition to covering our district, Pottsboro Fire Department provides assistance to area departments/districts in Grayson County. We also receive assistance for major fires, primarily from the North Texas Regional Airport Fire Department, Locust Fire Department, Preston Fire Department and Denison Fire Department. All the fire departments in Grayson County work together and support each other as needed.

Pottsboro Fire Department also hosts Fire Prevention events at the local schools and events including use of the County Fire trailer and free fire prevention items for the kids.
